Humorists
In this society individuals need something to help them get away
from stressful situations, like work, parenting, and the stress from parents
that stress reliever is comedy. With how the world is and what people have to go
through on a daily bases we turn to humor to put us in a better mood. Humorists
get paid because they go the extra mile with their jokes and because the talk
about subjects that normal people don’t want to speak on. In Alain De Borton’s
book, Status Anxiety he argues that the “Chief aim of humorists is not merely to
certain but to convey with impunity messages that might be dangerous or
impossible to state directly.”
Comedians are allowed to talk about anything, and they usually choose to
make jokes on sticky topics that society wouldn’t state directly because of new
laws and the new era we are in. Examples of those subjects can range from
Racism, Gay Marriage, and Politics but we don’t find it being a problem when
comedians joke about it. We find it amusing and entertaining, but if a regular
person said it then it would be a whole different story. Humorists are like
teachers in a way that they have to sit down and plan what they will teach their
audience. They choose a subject do some research on it then they write about it
but also add humor to it, that’s here the comedic part, comes in. They tell it
in a joking manner so that people can relax and not take things seriously all
the time.
A comedian that can be associated with this idea and doesn’t
care about what anyone says is Kevin Hart. He poked fun of a musician who
decided to announce in a letter to his fans that he was a homosexual. Kevin Hart
said that he would never do something like that because there is too much girls
around and it was a sin everyone in the audience found it funny. As an African-
American Kevin Hart likes to always compare the white American families to the
African American on and people never find a problem with it because it is comedy
it’s made for people to laugh and enjoy there selves. Humorists get leeway to do
what they want because there audience fined it humorous, but they also get a
pass because we allow a pass.
All in all I agree with De Botton’s view of the role of humorists. Humor
is necessary for people to overcome all their problems. It’s good to have
individuals that specialize in making people laugh. If it wasn’t for these
humorists we wouldn’t be able to laugh at certain things that were serious at
one time like we can now because humorist made it okay and more comfortable for
us to laugh at these situations. If we didn’t have humor the world would be
dull.
