Buy Nothing Day
The first Buy Nothing Day- a day in which people are urged to
purchase no goods, is a clever way to get individuals to stop spending money.
With the way society is set up in the new era, people feel the need to do
unnecessary spending just to live comfortably but enough isn’t enough with this
new generation. There are some individuals that spend on only things they need,
not what they want. People need to start saving their money. What better way
than to have this day dedicated to just doing that? Some would agree that this
would be a great idea to take into consideration, but others would look at it
differently and say it wouldn’t work. America makes money every day off it’s
consumers, this one day of not buying anything can cost a business a lot of
money. Just that fact alone proves that the Buy Nothing Day wouldn’t
work.
If the first Buy Nothing Day was supposed to be a mandatory day where
individuals don’t spend any money, it would have a negative effect on the
consumers. That would mean they could not spend money on food, parts to fix
vehicles to get from point A to point B, and medicine would not be purchased for
those in need. One cannot say much about this act that is mandatory in other
places because not a lot of details are given to analyze all aspects of this
act. Based off the information that was given, it seems like it works for the
countries that have it in effect, and this judgment can be made, because it
wouldn’t have been brought to the attention of the United States to take into
consideration if it wasn’t working well for the other places that have it
effective.
For families with young infants, how would it work for them? This day
wouldn’t work too well for my family the reason being is that we have young kids
who have needs. If for example one of them runs out of formula, medicine, water,
or diapers on that day of no purchase we would then have problems. The idea is
very thoughtful and a great way to help people save money but you cannot force
someone to do something they don’t want to. The Americans who over spend knows
right from wrong if they wanted to save they would. If the government wants to
help Americans save they should come up with an alternate
way.
All in all the buy nothing day is a good thought to help lower over
spending that most people do on unnecessary wants, but for the people that
actually spend their hard earn money on something they need should not lose the
privilege of purchasing things they need on that day. More details about this
day need to be given in order to make a fair evaluation about proceeding to make
it mandatory in The United States Of America. From what is given it can easily
be said that this day would not work for
Americans.
